Unique Shepherds Huts, Bodiam

Our Unique hand built huts are located on our 200 acre family farm in Bodaim, East Sussex. Bodiam a tiny village which houses a castle, a steam railway, a beautiful river, a friendly local pub and a Michelin Starred Restaurant. So something for everyone!! The huts are beautifully finished and offer warm, cosy and comfortable accommodation in sustainably managed woodlands. Accommodation works well for couples, groups, and families.

Nestled into their own wooded glades the huts offer accommodation for 4 to 5 people. There are up to 4 living huts on one site which share a communal wash hut. The woods are sustainably managed and offer an amazing habitat for both wildlife and our guests!!

To help you enjoy the space even if the weather isn’t behaving there is a communal covered eating area with a 13 foot long table and a huge camp fire outside. Each hut also has its own fire pit directly outside and a set of outside furniture. Specialist cookware is provided to enable you to enjoy a real open fire cooking experience.

Inside the huts there is a day bed which is used as a sofa and a dining table with bench seats. At night the dining table is folded down to provide a double bed. the Day bed is made into a lower bunk with a fold down bed to make the top bunk. In our 5 berth huts this top bunk is a double. The huts are Super cosy, they are double glazed and fully insulated, they are fitted with wood burning stoves and for convenience sake there is a gas hob in each. There is also sink in each with a fresh drinking water supply. 12 volt Electric lighting is provided by way of a solar panel and batteries. All cookware, cutlery, crockery, glassware bed linen and firewood is provided with your stay. The wash hut houses 2 chemical loos and a 2 piping hot showers. Every break is subject to a surcharge of £6 per person.

The Area

Bodiam is a tiny village in east Sussex, only about 11/2 from London. It sits in in the Heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Uniquely protected by the National Trust gem ‘Bodiam Castle’ the village remains a rural ideal. The Kent and East Sussex Railway runs into the village from the Cinque port Town of Tenterden. The river Rother meanders gently through the valley offering fishing for our guests and a little ferry that runs down tot he next village Kayaking course can be offered by prior arrangement. The River, Castle and Steam railway are all accessible directly from the farm as well as the Castle Inn a fantastic local pub serving amazing home prepared and wherever possible locally sourced foods Daily (they even serve breakfast at weekend!!!).

If you are looking to elevate your dining experience above the local pub we are lucky enough to also have The Curlew restaurant in the village, which is utterly beautiful in my opinion amazing value and holds a Michelin Star. We are about a 30 minute drive from the beach and less than that from the historic towns of Rye, Battle and Hastings. We have 2 amazing local vineyards one within walking distance. Most of our immediate walks go past Pubs, which in my opinion is always a good thing. More formal walks and Mountain bike tracks are readily available at Bewl Water and Bedgebury Pinetum. For adrenalin junkies Bedgebury is also home to a ‘Go Ape’ and ‘Go Ape Junior tree top’, at Bewl they host ‘Lapland Uk’ both are within 20 minutes drive of our site. If gardens are your thing we have a lot of those as well with Great Dixter, Merriments, Pashley Manor, Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst Castle and Sarah Ravens Cutting Gardens all being within a stones throw. If you need to do more them just contact me. There is still loads I haven’t mentioned, having said that most of our guests get to the woods with ideas of all the things they would like to do dancing in their heads, then simple relax, and do very little at all. Read a book listen to the birds song and just enjoy the fire and the space. Lovely!!! See you soon x
