A 15 minute walk and you can be in the famous Yew Tree Inn at Cauldon. An Aladdin’s Cave featuring a unique collection of antiques and curiosities including Queen Victoria’s Stockings, a 3,000-year-old Grecian urn and penny farthings. Pop in for a pint and a friendly welcome.

Just 5 minutes drive takes you through the village of Oakamoor to beautiful Dimmingsdale – truly one of Staffordshire’s hidden gems. This enchanting and beautiful valley is a haven for walkers, nature lovers and those seeking tranquillity and spectacular scenery. No visit is complete without a visit to the fabulous Ramblers Retreat famous for its hospitality and gigantic homemade puddings!

It’s also worth wandering to visit the Chained Oak – within the valley is an old Oak tree smothered with chains. Legend has it that in the 1830’s a beggar woman put a curse on the Earl of Shrewsbury – for every branch that fell off this Oak tree a member of his family would die. A branch did fall off the tree & a member of his family did die, so immediately the Earl had chains wrapped around it to stop any more branches falling off.

Manifold Valley, hire bikes in the village of Waterhouses or if you have brought your own cycle down to the village and experience the beautiful Manifold Valley.  There are a great selection of walks from the yurts, you don’t even need to take the car! We are lucky enough to be tucked under Ipstones Edge manged by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. Their conservation projects include grazing Shetland ponies- definitely worth a walk to see, see their website for further details.
